Objectives

The main goal of these tests is to detect any kind of contaminants that might be harmful to humans or to the marine ecosystem.

Test Subjects

California Spiny Lobster (Panulirus interruptus)

This species of clawless spiny lobster found in the eastern Pacific Ocean from Monterey Bay, California, to the Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico.

American Lobster (Homarus americanus)

Also called Atlantic Lobster or Maine Lobster, this is a species of clawed lobster found on the Atlantic coast of North America, mostly from Labrador to New Jersey.

Australian Spiny Lobster/Yabby (Cherax destructor)

Numerous varieties of clawless spiny lobsters, e.g., the Common Yabby, are native species in Victoria and New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Northern Territory Western Australia.

Summary

We tested for chemical, radiation and heavy metal contaminants. Traces of mercury, cadmium and arsenic were detected within normal and safe range.
