We hope, expect and insist on action
Dear Governor Newsom and Senators and Congressmen representing the People of California,
We think one of the the greatest threats to our environment is the accumulation of plastic in the ocean ecosystems.
The data is astonishing and alarming: From the plankton to the whales, our ocean is choking on plastic. We cannot let this continue.
As California is an example to the entire world, we must take a leading role in eliminating the worst part— unnecessary disposable plastics— through the same legislation already enacted by some local cities (e.g., The City of Goleta) banning single-use plastic materials for which biodegradable alternatives are readily available.
The next generations deserve a healthy ocean, and you have the unique ability to make a huge impact toward eliminating this toxic threat.
